Schedule September 30 - October 4, 2013

Monday, September 30

1.  Write a THESIS statement for the DBQ
2.  Lecture:  Greek Geography and Early History

Read Pages 123-126 in your textbook.  There is a reading guide that goes with this.  But I am going to make it OPTIONAL.  You can do it for extra credit---but you will need to download it yourself.  Even if you do not do the assignment, YOU STILL NEED TO READ!  You may have a pop quiz later in the week!

Chapter 5, Section 1 Reading Guide  This will be due on THURSDAY, if you choose to do it.  It will not be accepted late.

Tuesday, OCTOBER 1 

Periods 1 & 3:  Today, you will be watching a video entitled, "The Greeks:  Crucible of Civilization."  There is a sheet that goes with the video.  You can download it here.  If you are absent, you will still need to see the video, which you can watch below.

Period 8:  You will be meeting with your counselor.  You will be watching the video on Wednesday.

Wednesday, October 2
Periods 1 & 3:  Today, you will be meeting with your counselors.
Period 8:  Today, you will be watching the video that is located above.
If you are doing the optional assignment, it needs to be turned in TOMORROW!

Thursday, October 3
1.  Finish the film if necessary.  Discuss.
2.  Complete MAP of Ancient Greece.  
Homework:  Read pages 127-139 in the textbook.  Complete the Reading Guide Chapter 5, Sections 2-3.  This will be due on TUESDAY!

Lecture:  Ancient Athens and Ancient Sparta

SCHEDULE September 9-13

I've been out a bit due to the fact that I came down with pneumonia.  I expect you guys to be respectful and mature while I am gone.  For the most part, I got absolutely great reports for Friday.  Thank you for that. However, there are a few of you who have not acted in the manner that I would expect.  You know who you are....

Monday, September 9

Today, you will be watching the first episode of Mankind: The Story of All of Us, entitled "Inventors." There is a sheet for this fill that you will fill out while watching.  If you miss the film, you will still need to watch it.  You can watch it right here:




Homework:  Finish reading Chapter 2 and complete reading guide "Egypt, the Indus River Valley and China" for Wednesday.

Tuesday, September 10

Finish the film.  After you are done with the film, you will be writing a short essay.  The essay will be given in class and you will have about 20 minutes to finish it.

The Reading Guide for Chapter 2 is due tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 11

Discuss Chapter 2 and the chart.  Review for quiz.  Don't forget, we have Flash cards to help you study.  Go to the tab at the top of the page!

The exam will be 40 multiple choice, matching and map questions.  Please be sure to know the following:

1.  River civilizations.  Know the characteristics of the 4 major river civilizations
2.  Art of the ancient world.  Match the picture to the appropriate civilization.
3.  Multiple choice.  Be able to answer questions comparing and contrasting the civilizations, characteristics of the Neolithic revolution, complex cultures.
4.  Map.  You will be asked to identify several features on a map
5.  Specific Definitions.  The last section is a matching section for specific definitions.  Look at your reading guides.

Read, "The Philosophy Behind the Movie Avatar" and answer the questions.  Due tomorrow.
